Our Programs

WNMU's Adult Education Services provides online and face-to-face programming throughout Catron, Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, and Sierra Counties. Some of these programs include Adult Education, High School Equivalency Preparation, English as a Second Language, and Digital Literacy (Computer Skills). We also assist with employment search and application/resume completion.

Adult Education

Every adult student's journey is unique. and we are happy to help students at any level. The majority of new students in our program need to develop the basic skills in reading, writing, language, and math. Students in our adult education courses develop these skills to then prepare for the GED® or HiSet® exams in our high school equivalency courses. All new students complete TABE® pre-testing to see what they already know. The TABE® results will place students in one of 6 levels. Student's who score in levels 1-3 will start in our basic academic skills courses.

High School Equivalency

The State of New Mexico recognizes passing scores on two tests as demonstrating high school equivalency. These two tests are the GED® and the HiSET®. Adult Education Services offers online and face-to-face courses to help students prepare to take either the GED® or HiSET®. Students who score at levels 4 through 6 on the TABE® pre-test and post-test will be placed into High School Equivalency (HSE) courses. Our HSE courses are designed to help students master high school level Language Arts (reading and writing), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies content and skills.

English as a Second Language

Our English as a Second Language (ESL) program helps English language learners in Southwest New Mexico develop their English language ability. Our program is focused on helping students develop competence in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the English language. The ESL program can help students work toward their high school equivalency or help students improve their employment opportunities. ESL courses are offered in-person so that students may practice their English communication skills with a group of other English language learners.
